Bedding tips to make them last longer

1. Keep it a point to save your bedding’s care instruction sheet if you find it hard to remember.
2. Never try to wash any comforter at home, if the manufacturers advice only laundry-wash.

How often should I wash my comforter?

Generally, you should wash your comforter once a month, your sheets once in 3-7 days, your bedspread once a month and blankets once a week. A down comforter can be given for a wash once in two months. It’s better not to wash them at home. Lifting them to dry can give you a shoulder pain. If you are allergic to dust mites, its better you wash your sheets once in 2 or 3 days. This is because, sheets have dead cells left on them and dust mites will feed on those cells. There are people who wash their bedding everyday! If you maintain the bedding properly, it is enough if the comforter is washed 6 times a year.

If you want to keep your bedding neat and clean without the struggle of washing a fluffy comforter, go for duvet covers. Nowadays, duvet covers are available in all sizes and beautiful designs. You can wash your duvet cover frequently and insert your comforter into them.

Wash your sheets and comforter frequently even if your pets sit on the bed. Washing a huge comforter repeatedly in your home washing machine weakens the fabric. Comforters are too big and fluffy to fit a normal washing machine and the agitator in your home machine pulls up hard on the fabric causing rips in the long term. So if your bedding gets soiled easily, take it to a launder who has big washing machine preferably with no central agitator.

Vacuum blankets to remove dust.

Tips to wash and dry your sheets

Wash your bedding in lukewarm water. Hot water may fade its colors.

Set the wash mode as “Gentle”.

Use a mild detergent. Never use a bleach as the fibers get weakened.

Use an extra rinse cycle.

Don’t expose your sheet/comforter to direct sun whether or not the instruction allows you to do so. Dry your bedding in air for at least 24 hours to avoid damp areas.

Don’t forget to take them off your dryer. Else they get wrinkled very much. Tumble them many times to get off from wrinkles.

What’s in a thread count?

A high thread count pillow will give your face a smooth feeling. You can get 400 thread count pillows very cheap from Amazon. If you can afford a bit more, buy 1200 thread count pillows! You can feel the difference in your face and hair.

For a bedding, a thread count above 300 is good. Higher the thread count, the more heavenly you feel. The main reason why people settle with lower thread counts is because there is not much variety in higher thread count sheets. But if you can find a good design in high thread count sheets, well and good.

Caring for your pillows

1.While a god bedding is responsible to give us a peaceful sleep, a pillow goes one step forward in assuring good health.

2.At times when you oil your hair, wear a disposable head cap before sleeping. This will prevent the pillow from getting soiled easily.

3.Cover your pillow with a pillow protector. Pillow protectors come cheap during festive season and give an extra layer of protection for your pillows so that you don’t have to wash them often.

4. After washing your pillow, ensure that it is completely dried. Though it may look dry on the outside, some parts inside may not have dried completely.
